Wedding Wednesday: We’re Engaged! How He Asked

Happy Wednesday Babes!! It’s my first blog post since launching this sweet blog, and also my first Wedding Wednesday post! Those of you who follow me on Instagram have likely seen that Aaron and I got engaged last Saturday (7/18/2020)! I thought no better way to kick off this series than by sharing the story of “how he asked”. Grab that tissue box, I know I had to while writing this!

HOW HE ASKED

Before we get to the day of the proposal, I’m going to tell you about how Aaron laid the groundwork for this epic day and surprise!

We’re going to take it back to the beginning of July, a couple weeks before the proposal. I am a major major planner - I keep a paper planner, and normally fill out a whiteboard planner on our fridge, but had neglected to for a couple of months. So when the beginning of July hit, Aaron, who is super laid back, brought the whiteboard over and wanted to get it filled out to “get an idea of our schedule” since from what he’d heard - we were pretty busy! This was my first little nugget of potential information that my high-alert mind picked up on. The man who normally doesn’t know what day it is during the hockey off-season suddenly wanted a detailed schedule of our months events! Innnnnteresting. So I filled it out, crossed my fingers, and that was that.

Fast forward a few days, and I was getting my hair done by my friend Moni, when I got a text from one of my best girlfriends who recently went through a breakup, letting me know that a photographer had reached out to her to ask if she and her boyfriend would do a couples shoot. Seeing as they’d broken up, she asked if Aaron and I could step in and do the shoot. The shoot would be in San Francisco, and I’d been DYING to get pictures together by the Golden Gate Bridge, since it’s such an iconic Bay Area location. Needless to say - I was all over it. I told Moni, and she offered to do my hair and makeup for the shoot. Double sold. I went home, and asked Aaron how he felt about the idea. He was a bit hesitant at first, but when I suggested another couple friend of ours take over the spot instead, he quickly agreed and attributed his willingness to do it to the fact that we were in the offseason and his schedule finally wasn’t crazy. And so when the photographer reached out to me herself, I told her that we were in!

The photographer, Adriana Klas, reached out to me to let me know she was “rebranding” and was over the moon that we’d be “helping her out” with the shoot! She let me know the shoot would be fairly dressy, so I went to work finding a dress (this is it!), and we were set!

The day of, I headed to Moni’s to get my hair and makeup done, came home right after to get some work done, got changed, and we were off! I just launched a crystal fringe denim jacket line (The Fringe With Benefits) and had been preoccupied working on and thinking about that all day, so if there were any signs of Aaron being nervous, or fumbling anything - I completely missed it!

Here we are, the best part, HOW HE ASKED!

We got to Battery Spencer, which is a beautiful scenic area in Marin overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco Bay! It was an incredibly sunny, beautiful, albeit windy day, and we met up with the photographer, Adriana, and walked over to the “shoot” location. Adriana had Aaron and I do a couple of shots together, then suggested we do some individual shots while the wind died down. She had me turn around and face the bridge, then asked me to turn back around, and I think my face of shock says it all! He said a few sweet things I’ll keep out of this post, said my full name, and asked me to marry him. I nodded for a solid 10 seconds, trying not to cry, before saying YES! Enjoy some photos of the moment below!

Aaron absolutely blew me away with this proposal (and the ring eek!). I thought that he had perhaps just taken advantage of the opportunity of the couples shoot to propose. Little did I know, he had coordinated EVERYTHING from the beginning. From my friend texting me, to the photographer reaching out. He had coordinated all of it, even down to researching the gorgeous location, which I’d thought the photographer picked out! He did it all and he absolutely exceeded any expectations I had. I’m so grateful that he put so much work and thought into not only creating the perfect moment, but also ensuring that we had beautiful photos to capture the memory for us to enjoy forever. What a guy, am I right?

We are over the moon and I’m still on an engagement-high! We are starting to get ready to dive in head-first into planning and set a date, which is beyond exciting, but we do want to also make sure to soak in this new engagement joy, and enjoy every moment. More than anything, we’re so excited to get married and begin the rest of our lives together! I cannot wait to be his wifey. I’ll make sure to document the planning process and continue to share all things wedding here!

To everyone who has reached out, thank you so much for the love, support, and encouragement! We are so grateful and cannot wait for all that’s to come. Time to plan a wedding!! We need hashtag suggestions, so if you’ve got any clever Dell hashtags, comment them below!
